Chiropractic Philosophy
Chiropractic philosophy is based upon self evident truths. The body is self healing and self regulating.
An example of the "self healing" is when a healthy person cuts their finger, the body will heal this without any conscious thought needed. All the body needs is a clean environment and time.
An example of the self regulation is when a healthy person runs up a flight of stairs. A cascade of physiological reactions take place that allow the body to perform this task - heart rate increases, blood flow is diverted to the muscles, breathing rate increases and depth of inspiration and expiration increase. All of this happens automatically.
The nervous system is the master controller of the body. Every cell, tissue and organ is under direct control of the nervous system. This includes the processes exampled above.
Hence it can be deduced that if the nervous system is interfered with, the body will not heal or regulate at it's potential. This would move the body away from optimal health.
Chiropractic, for over 100 years, has aimed to remove the interference from the nervous system to help the body heal and regulate at it's normal level.
How is this achieved? I will explore this further in a future article.
